Dua Lipa's 'Levitating' Lawsuit Is Dropped

Copyright Infringers Drop 'Levitating' Lawsuit Against Dua Lipa

A Florida reggae band abandoned their copyright case against Dua Lipa for replicating their prior song "Levitating" two days after a federal judge threw out the complaint.

Artikal Sound System sued the diva last year for allegedly plagiarizing their 2017 song "Live Your Life" for her 2020 smash, which spent 77 weeks on the Billboard Hot 100.

The lawsuit came only two days after U.S. District Judge Sunshine S. Sykes ruled emphatically in Lipa's favor, concluding that no one involved in "Levitating" had "access" to the earlier song, a necessary element in any copyright claim.

The case against Lipa was dismissed, but Judge Sykes ordered Artikal Sound System to present a revised version within two weeks. The band seems to have decided not to sue Lipa and the other "Levitating" co-writers.

Lipa's attorney, Christine Lepera, informed Billboard on Wednesday evening that the band had canceled the lawsuit unilaterally without reaching a compromise.
